Position Overview & Specifications

To work as a senior member of the immunisation team delivering an easily accessible, child and young person friendly, clinically effective, high quality immunisation service within Public Health Nursing service.

Work in partnership with service users, parents, school staff and members of the primary health care team to undertake health promotion and associated National Childhood Immunisation Programmes in a variety of settings, including schools, community, out- patient and primary care clinics.

Provide leadership to immunisation staff in the delivery of immunisation sessions to ensure a highly efficient, effective and safe immunisation service is provided.

Act as a supportive member of the immunisation team, working collaboratively to achieve team /organisational goals and positively contributing to the overall performance of the team.

Provide accurate, up to date, evidence-based information about vaccinations to patients, parents, professionals and members of the public as required.

Plan, deliver and evaluate immunisation sessions to ensure the provision of safe effective care, ensuring all organisational standards and values are met.

Work to maximise vaccination uptake to meet immunisation targets, by reducing barriers and working proactively.

Safely deliver immunisations unsupervised and in line with local and national policy, guidance and PGDs – making clinical judgements and decisions and being responsible and accountable.

To act as an advocate for all school aged children and young people, providing information relating to immunisations and provide reassurance, using tact and diplomacy to overcome barriers to understanding when dealing with vulnerable clients.

To be proactive in coordinating and participating in setting, reviewing and auditing standards of care, learning from clinical governance recommendations and seek feedback from service users and families.

Support the Team manager in the line management of staff including supervision, performance management, appraisal and the identification of training needs.

Regularly deputise for the Team Manager in times of absence, ensuring the smooth running of the service, maintenance of quality standards and providing day to day operational management and leadership.
